Capable of accommodating any size or type of vessel entering the Seaway System, Port of Oshawa provides shippers with a wide range of cargo handling equipment, from heavy lift cranes to fork lift trucks. The labour force is experienced in handling all types of cargo.

The Oshawa Harbour Commission and Oshawa Stevedoring Inc. announced the opening of a new transit shed in September, 2002. With this new addition, the total inside storage space available is now 6503 square metres (70,000 sq.ft). The new self-ventilated construction covers 4645 square metres (50,000 sq.ft).. It is built on a cement base with three drive-through doors to provide an inside loading area to protect weather sensitive cargo. It is also equipped with three loading docks for dry-van loading. The new shed has been built with a possibility to increase its size to 9290 square metres (100,000 sq.ft).

The multi-laned Highway 401, which provides a vital transportation link between Montreal, Toronto and Windsor/Detroit, is within two kilometres of the harbour compound. The many transport carriers servicing the Port offer a complete range of equipment to accommodate any kind of cargo.
